The largest city in Wales, and the 11th largest in the UK, Cardiff is a sought-after neighbourhood that attracts renters and buyers from all over the world. If you are thinking of moving to Cardiff, our Cardiff estate agents have put together this guide so you can get an idea of what to expect.
Location, location, location…
Cardiff is in South Wales, on the banks of the River Severn where the lower estuary meets the Bristol Channel. Cardiff City is 14 miles southwest of Newport and around 41 miles southeast of Swansea. Cardiff is the proud capital of Wales, offering residents easy access to the seaside areas of Wales as well as the scenic surrounding Brecon Beacons. Our Cardiff estate agents love the area thanks to the convenient access it offers to the surrounding areas. Whether you want to head south for a day on the beach, east for a day at the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, or north for a day climbing the Brecon Beacons. Cardiff is perfectly placed to explore so much of the UK.
What is Cardiff known for?
Cardiff is known for being the capital of Wales and as such, it is home to the Welsh government who sit at the Senedd. Cardiff is also known for its docks which were created in the 1800s. These docks are situated on the north side of the Severn Estuary, they are connected to the train network and they are also within easy reach of the M4, and they are still in operation to this day.
Cardiff is also known for its shopping, sport and culture. Some exciting things our estate agents recommend in Cardiff include:
- Wandering the grounds of Cardiff Castle, a city-centre fortress that has dominated Cardiff since the 11th century
- A free visit to the National Museum which covers all things Welsh, starting from the big ban all the way up to the present day
- Catching a game at the Principality Stadium which has been the home of Welsh rugby since 1999 (one of our Cardiff estate agent’s biggest recommendations)
- Immerse yourself in culture at St David’s Hall, Wales’ largest performing arts venue
